Sleeping Beauty in my Kitchen

When I was little I had a collection of tiny Disney books, and one of them was Sleeping Beauty. I read these over and over again - I was just in love. I actually watched the movie when I was much older and I appreciated it differently.

You may wonder why is Sleeping Beauty lost in a reverie in a modern kitchen, with a cat? :) Because this was part of that “finding your voice” experiment, and I wanted to mash up in one painting two themes: “slice of life” and “6 year old tattoo”. (More about it in @andyjpizza ‘s class on Skillshare).

For the “6 year old tattoo” you had to go back in time and think of a tattoo that you liked when you were little, but you would still love now (for me it was Disney princesses - Sleeping Beauty).

The “slice of life” refers to your everyday experiences. Sometimes, as a break from work, I love going in to the kitchen and just daydream, look over the window or just look at my favourite teapots and jars (it might be boring for some :)) but for me it has a calming effect :)) The painting is from 2022.
